Brian Wong to Return to GRAND-AM Competition in Monterey

bwongLOS ANGELES, Calif. (September 7, 2013)- Continuing a season that has seen him travel the globe in a variety of races including the American Le Mans Series, ARCA, the International GT Open and Maserati Trofeo World Series, Brian Wong will return to competition this weekend in the Continental Tire Sports Car Festival at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

For Wong, the first ever Chinese-American to score a podium in American Le Mans Series competition, the opportunity to return to the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series is a welcome one. Having last taken part in series competition in 2011 at The Rolex 24 at Daytona, Wong will return this weekend with prototype veteran Kyle Marcelli, the duo driving the No. 18 Muehlner Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

“It will be great to return to Rolex GT competition,” stated Wong. “The folks at Muehlner have been in contact with me for several months now, and I’m excited that we were able to finally put something together. Kyle is a great teammate who has proven himself over the years in ALMS, and it will be fun to return to what is almost a home track.”

Brian Wong Takes Impressive Come-From-Behind Seventh in ARCA Debut

MILLVILLE, N.J. (July 29, 2013)-Despite having to start from the back following a qualifying procedure infraction, World Stage Racing’s Brian Wong drove an impressive race to take seventh during yesterday’s Barbera’s Autoland 150 at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Making his debut in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, Wong can take a lot of satisfaction from his day.

“I’m very happy with our performance today,” stated the Newport Beach, California native. “Having to start from the back on a road course always makes for a tough challenge, especially with the heat, but everyone at Venturini Motorsports gave me the tools and insight to take the car to the front. I think we did a great job given the circumstances.”

Even though Wong had set the third fastest time in qualifying, a braking issue forced the Californian to miss his qualifying group, forcing him to start from the back per ARCA series rules.

Racing in over 100 degree weather in the sweltering New Jersey humidity, the entire Venturini Motorsports team knew that the No. 55 Toyota Camry would have a tough challenge ahead.

Making quick work of the back half of the field, Wong was knocking on the door of the top ten before reaching the midpoint of the race. Knowing that pit work and strategy would play a key role in making up the remaining spots, the Venturini Motorsports team elected to pit Brian right at the edge of the fuel window in order to make it to the end.

As pit stops cycled through, Wong’s earlier stop would advance him to as high as third at one point, however with much of the field behind him running on fresher tires, the three-time ALMS podium winner had his work cut out to keep the field at bay. Having used up much of his car to get to the front, Wong elected to exercise patience during the waning laps of the race, falling back to seventh by the time the checkered flag fell.

While the weekend did feature several setbacks, overall Wong and the entire World Stage Racing organization can take some satisfaction in the potential shown.

“We definitely showed what we were capable of today,” continued Wong. “We qualified third and got right back into that spot during the race, it’s just tough to get there without burning up the car in the process. Everyone at Venturini did a great job this weekend and hopefully we’ll be back with better results to come.”

While there are currently no significant future announcements for Wong and World Stage Racing, be sure to check back in as the organization looks to continue a strong 2013 season.

Brian Wong Qualifies Third in ARCA Debut

MILLVILLE, N.J. (July 27, 2013) - In his debut for the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, World Stage Racing’s Brian Wong qualified an impressive third for tomorrow’s Barbera’s Autoland 150 at New Jersey Motorsports Park.

“Qualifying went about as well as I could have asked for,” stated Wong. “Everyone at Venturini Motorsports has been great to work with so far, and I’m glad we were able to come back from practice to show some real pace.”

With practice and qualifying all taking place today, time was scarce for the Newport Beach, California native to get used to his No. 55 Venturini Motorsports Toyota Camry on a track he’d never driven. After finishing fourth in the first practice session, the team had struggled with brake issues throughout the second session, putting Wong in a difficult position headed in to qualifying.

Having to skip his qualifying group in order to resolve the braking issues, Wong was able to get on track later during the session, having never had a chance to make a proper qualifying simulation on fresh tires. Getting up to speed quickly, Wong was one of four drivers to break the pre-existing track record, with the Californian’s average speed of 99.771 mph good enough to take the inside of the second row.

Brian Wong, World Stage Racing Take Debut Victory in Maserati Trofeo World Series

bwongmas1

NORTHAMPTONSHIRE, UK (July 15, 2013) - Competing in his very first race in the Maserati Trofeo World Series, World Stage Racing’s Brian Wong took a surprise victory during yesterday’s sprint event at the world-renowned Silverstone Circuit.

“What a great event,” stated Wong. “We weren’t sure what to expect when we came in this weekend, but it turned out to be a great couple of days for all of us. Guido Bonfiglio and the entire Swiss Team put together a great car, and I’m really happy to deliver a victory for them as well as my teammate Mauro.”

As a one-make series featuring the prolific Maserati Granturismo MC, Wong, hailing from Newport Beach, California, came into the weekend for just a one-off opportunity to drive for the team. Having never driven on the circuit located in Northamptonshire, England, and with limited track time before today’s racing, the need to acclimate quickly would come at a premium.
