NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (August 5, 2015)- Continuing a wild summer in which he’s driven everything from exotic Lamborghini machinery to dirt-based rally cars, Brian Wong will return to action this Friday at the famed Watkins Glen International. Driving in the prestigious K&N East series as part of the NASCAR Sprint Cup weekend, Wong will be driving the No. 40 for the highly rated MDM Hillman organization, who also compete in the NASCAR Sprint Cup series.
“It will be great to get back behind the wheel of a stock car,” stated Wong. “The K&N Series is ultra competitive, and running during a Sprint Cup weekend will mean everyone is going to push hard, so I’m definitely going to give it everything I have. Everyone at MDM Hillman has done an excellent job getting the car ready, and we’re excited. It’s been a crazy summer so far but a great experience, and I’m very thankful to everyone at World Stage Racing for the opportunity. Having the GT Channel on board will also be a nice addition and it underscores our goals pretty well.”
Partnering with the team will be a well-known brand within the sports car and import tuning communities, GT Channel, a network on YouTube specializing in motorsport and car. Featuring nearly 300,000 subscribers, the network is primarily known for its coverage of drifting, rally cross and sports car racing, which is a reach that is well-suited to the goals of Wong’s largest supporter, World Stage Racing.
DETROIT (July 29, 2015)- Following an eventful weekend that saw everything from broken ramps to troubled qualifying runs, World Stage Racing’s Brian Wong still managed to impress in his Red Bull Global Rallycross series debut with a top-five finish in Detroit. Competing in his first-ever event, in fact his first-ever time on dirt, the 26-year old went from last to fifth during Sunday’s race.
“It was an incredible event, I had so much fun,” stated Wong. “We came in this weekend with no real understanding of what to expect, but by time Sunday’s race hit we had a really fast car, and I think with a little more seat time we’ll be right up with the front pack. I couldn’t believe the fan turnout. What an incredible job this series does to bring everyone in, it was amazing. Everyone at Rhys Millen Racing did an excellent job of getting me prepared and providing a fast car, thanks to everyone at World Stage Racing for making the opportunity possible. Rhys was especially helpful. I came in to this race knowing very little, but he really made a strong effort to help coach me through. With all of the experience he has it was especially beneficial, and that went a long way.”
Competing in the spec-built Lites category, Brian would take to his No. 89 machine courtesy of Rhys Millen Racing, a storied team built around the legendary Rhys Millen, who has accomplished such feats as setting a new world record to top his many victories at Pikes Peak, victories in Formula Drift, as well as Time Attack. Rhys is part of the larger Millen family, one of the most historic names in all of off-road racing, with accomplishments in various forms of motorsport through the decades.
SANTA ANA, Calif. (Jul 22, 2015)- Continuing a diverse 2015 season that has seen him drive everything from grassroots stock cars to exotic GT cars, Californian Brian Wong has entered the latest chapter of his motorsport exploits, Red Bull Global Rallycross competition.
“The Red Bull Global Rallycross has opened a whole new gateway for racing, and I couldn’t be more excited to have some fun out there,” stated Wong. “GRC has done an excellent job engaging fans and creating an all-around platform that really resonates with the viewers. The bottom line is… it’s a fun series, which is refreshing. Coming from road racing and stock cars, I’m hoping to adapt quickly. I’m really jumping in at the deep end on this one, but I’m sure it will be a great experience. Thanks to everyone at Rhys Millen Racing for the opportunity.”
Driving for the storied Rhys Millen Racing, the 26-year-old will enter this weekend’s event in Belle Isle, Detroit having never driven in any type of rally racing. Competing in the spec-built Lites category, Wong will take to the wheel in his No. 89 driving on pavement, dirt, jumps… and with literally zero testing or prior experience.
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (July 3, 2015) – Following a two-month break since the most recent round of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Series North America, World Stage Racing’s Brian Wong would impress yet again with a fourth-place finish during this past weekend’s event at the famed Watkins Glen International.
“Anytime you can get behind the wheel of a race car it’s a good weekend,” stated Wong. “The new Huracán is an amazing car to drive, and I couldn’t be more appreciative of everyone at World Stage Racing and O’Gara Motorsport for the opportunity. We had high hopes for a podium, but given the circumstances a fourth is still something to be satisfied with. We still have a number of events lined up for the summer, and hopefully this is just the beginning”
Driving in the Pro-Am category, the Newport Beach native would be teamed with O’Gara Motorsport team principal Tom O’Gara. A relative newcomer to the sport, O’Gara is now in his third season of competition, with Wong taking on the senior duties for the No. 14 Lamborghini Huracán LP620-2.
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (June 25, 2015)-Following strong pace and demonstrable potential at the season-opening rounds of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo North America, World Stage Racing’s Brian Wong will return to this weekend’s doubleheader at the world famous Watkins Glen International.
“It’s great to be back in the series, the car is absolutely phenomenal to drive,” stated Wong. “At Laguna Seca we were just getting up to speed, but I learned a lot and feel all the better prepared headed into this weekend’s race. Watkins Glen is such a special track, super fast and with long, flowing corners. I haven’t run here since a K&N East race in 2009 on the “short course,” so a high-horsepower GT car should be a great contrast and an excellent training ground should I look to run anymore events at the circuit later on in the year.”
Driving the No. 14 Lamborghini Huracán LP 620-2 Super Trofeo, World Stage and Wong will once again reunite with O’Gara Motorsports to service the effort. Competing in the Pro-Am category, the multi-time ALMS podium finisher will campaign solo in the event with an aim at adding to his podium tally.
