Todd Gilliland Shines in Irwindale Debut for WSR

gillIRWINDALE, Calif. (July 20, 2014)- Following a wild race during Saturday’s “Family Night at the Races” at Irwindale Speedway, 14-year old Todd Gilliland exercised a great combination of speed and patience to take third during the event.

With World Stage Racing fielding three entries for the famed Gilliland family, anticipation was high for the event at the revitalized circuit. With Irwindale Speedway falling in to a rough few years of management change, Saturday’s race in many ways marked the return of the facility, which has housed a number of classic events including the NASCAR Toyota All-Star Showdown, a number of USAC events, and the acting U.S. home for the drift racing movement.

One of the most noted names to materialize out of the Southern California track is the Gilliland name. Starting with grandfather Butch, a part-time NASCAR racer who achieved some success in the 1990’s, a family tradition of racing at the 3/8 mile circuit was born. Most noted is Butch’s son, David, who currently campaigns in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. David, a two-time pole winner, including the Daytona 500, has been part of the Sprint Cup scene since 2007 and currently drives for the Talladega winning Front Row Motorsports.

World Stage Racing to Field Three Generations of Heritage in Irwindale Return

irwindaleLOS ANGELES, Calif. (July 17, 2014)- Continuing the team’s rich heritage of competing in a number of motorsport disciplines throughout the globe, World Stage Racing (WSR) will field three cars during Irwindale Speedway’s “Family Night” this Saturday, July 19.

Most notably, the team will field entries for the famous Gilliland family, entering three generations starting with 57-year old Butch, 38-year old David, and 14-year old Todd. All three generations of the famed household will be competing against one another for the first time.

Senior member Butch has several decades of experience in stock cars, including competing at the top levels of NASCAR in 1997, before handing the reigns to his son David. David Gilliland is perhaps the most know entity of the family, having competed in the NASCAR Sprint Cup ranks since 2006, earning three pole positions including the 2008 Daytona 500. Currently driving the No. 38 Ford Fusion for Front Row Motorsports in the Sprint Cup Series, David is utilizing a rare weekend off to race with his father and son. At 14-years old, Todd Gilliland is the newest member of the racing family, currently competing in his first full season of stock car racing, where he’s already accrued his first pole position and victory.

Brian Wong Takes Impressive Second in New Jersey

podiumMILLVILLE, NJ (June 3, 2013)- In only his second race in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards, Southern California native Brian Wong took an impressive runner-up finish during Sunday’s Great Railing 150 at New Jersey Motorsports Park, also winning the Scott’s Rookie of the Race award in the process.

“I couldn’t be happier with the result,” stated Wong. “We knew after last year’s race we had what it took to be competitive, and this weekend everything finally came together to prove it. Everyone at Venturini Motorsports did a great job of preparing the car, and equally important they had a great strategy heading in. The entire race was well thought out and well planned, and the result shows. Thanks to everyone not only at Venturini, but World Stage Racing as well who put everything together.”

Following an up-and-down event in 2013, Wong, the first Chinese-American competitor in ARCA history, came into this year’s event ready to improve on last year’s form. Returning to the No. 55 Venturini Motorsports Toyota Camry, the Newport Beach resident was immediately on pace during the opening practice sessions gridding on the outside of row three for the race.

Brian Wong Returns to ARCA Racing Series for New Jersey Redemption

arcawongLOS ANGELES, Calif. (May 28, 2014)- Following an impressive ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards debut in 2013, World Stage Racing’s Brian Wong will return to the site of his first venture, New Jersey Motorsports Park. Competing for the second year in a row during Sunday’s Great Railing 150 presented by Barbera’s Autoland, Wong, the first Chinese-American to compete in the renowned series looks to improve on last year’s top ten.

“I think last year’s race proved the potential we had and we’re coming into New Jersey as prepared as we can be,” stated Wong. “Even though we took seventh last year, that doesn’t really tell the story of our weekend as we were actually running stronger were it not for a few hiccups earlier in the day. As anyone in racing knows, consistency plays a big role so to return with everyone at Venturini Motorsports is fantastic, I have no doubt we can capitalize on the potential we showed. I really have to thank everyone at World Stage for putting this together, it’s going to be a great weekend.”

With Wong driving the No. 55 Toyota Camry, the entire team is looking forward to proving the potential shown previously. During the 2013 round, despite missing a significant amount of the second practice session with brake issues, the Newport Beach resident managed to qualify the car in third, outpacing the series regulars and placing among an elite group of “road course ringers” more adapted to the configuration of New Jersey.
