LOS ANGELES, Calif. (September 7, 2013)- Continuing a season that has seen him travel the globe in a variety of races including the American Le Mans Series, ARCA, the International GT Open and Maserati Trofeo World Series, Brian Wong will return to competition this weekend in the Continental Tire Sports Car Festival at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
For Wong, the first ever Chinese-American to score a podium in American Le Mans Series competition, the opportunity to return to the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series is a welcome one. Having last taken part in series competition in 2011 at The Rolex 24 at Daytona, Wong will return this weekend with prototype veteran Kyle Marcelli, the duo driving the No. 18 Muehlner Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.
“It will be great to return to Rolex GT competition,” stated Wong. “The folks at Muehlner have been in contact with me for several months now, and I’m excited that we were able to finally put something together. Kyle is a great teammate who has proven himself over the years in ALMS, and it will be fun to return to what is almost a home track.”
Muehlner Motorsports America, for whom the duo will drive, is quickly becoming a known entity in GRAND-AM Rolex Series competition. With roots firmly set in the European GT ranks, the team has steadily competed throughout the 2013 season and continues to grow its presence in the United States.
The opportunity has come available thanks to Wong’s relationship with World Stage Racing, a business-minded motorsport organization dedicated to bridging the gap between Chinese and American businesses. Having played an active role in Brian’s career, including forging programs for this year’s 12 Hours of Sebring and Grand Prix of Long Beach, the organization looks forward to continuing its awareness in Monterey.
Practice for the Continental Tire Sports Car Festival will be tomorrow, September 7, with the race taking place one day later on Sunday, September 8. Live coverage can be found at 5PM ET on Fox Sports 1.
