NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. (June 8, 2016)- Continuing the team’s involvement in a variety of motorsport disciplines, World Stage Racing is proud to announce their return to NASCAR competition at the upcoming Sonoma round on June 24-25, 2016. As part of the highly attended NASCAR Sprint Cup Series weekend, sharing the event with NASCAR stars such as Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Kyle Busch, and Jimmie Johnson, the team will take to the track in the lead-up K&N Pro Series round.
“It’s awesome to return to NASCAR-sanctioned competition,” stated World Stage Racing driver Brian Wong. “It’s been almost a year since we took to the track in any type of stock car, but returning in equipment we’re familiar with and a track I’ve visited before, we should be able to hit the ground running. It’s a great opportunity to be in front of a huge crowd, and given our program, I think we’ll be able to deliver strong for all of our partners in attendance.”
No stranger to this type of competition, Brian Wong will take to the event as somewhat of a veteran of road racing. While NASCAR-style racing traditionally competes on oval circuits, the famed Sonoma Raceway is one of a few road courses that the series takes to every year. Being a specialist, Wong’s most recent NASCAR event was in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series round at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, the lone road course of the series. Previously, he has also taken podium finishes in the ARCA Racing Series at the New Jersey Motorsport Park road course, not to mention countless results in a number of sportscar disciplines, including being the first Chinese-American driver to take a podium in the former American Le Mans Series.
World Stage Racing will head to the event as an instant contender, based largely on their reputation as one of the leading organizations in the sport. Known for its ability to develop innovative marketing programs and content, the team will head to the scenic Bay Area venue in the heart of the digital technology scene, fitting the team’s reputation for digital engagement and targeting a millennial audience.
Most notably, World Stage Racing is the only NASCAR-based organization to be entirely owned by an Asian American family.
Practice for the event begins Friday, June 24, with racing action taking place on Saturday, June 25.
Continued updates will be announced in the coming weeks.
